Kym and the team at Bespoke Spoodles have been the most kind, generous, ethical, patient and professional people we have ever come across – in any business!

About 18 months ago, I sent an email to Kym outlining our lifestyle and asking her if she thought Spoodles would be a good fit for us. I was expecting a one line reply and a sales pitch – what I got was over an hour on the phone with a wonderful woman who clearly cares about putting the right people with the right dogs – not necessarily hers!
I never once felt pressured to pick a spoodle (or to pick Bespoke Spoodles). Kym spoke very highly of other breeds and breeders, and rather than directing me anywhere, she helped me understand what to look for and why, what to ask the breeder I chose and why she thought those criteria were important.

I went away from that phone call feeling supported, not pressured, and I certainly didn’t feel like I needed to rush the process. I continued my due diligence for the next few weeks, and found something odd – there were quite a few “Bespoke” knock offs!

Just like store brands try to imitate a quality products’ packaging, there were almost identical logos, motos, “curriculums” and buzzwords on their profiles. They might have cute photos, but I have now learned, if they can’t explain why they are doing it and produce records – run!

These copycats might seem like a good way to score the same pup for a slight discount, but please take it from me: this early stage is crucial. Do not take the chance. What you save upfront will seem like nothing when you spend almost two decades paying more for everything: health and joint defects they didn’t screen for (and aren’t covered by insurance), longer with the groomer (who hates you!) boarding for holidays because your friends and family refuse to take them, vet call outs or anaesthetic for basic treatments, home repairs and upgrades due to destructive behaviour and constant remedial training for reactivity and behavioural issues.

Bespoke Spoodles aren’t close to us, and weren’t known to us before starting this process. But after looking at their website, socials, reviews and resources, there was no way we were going to pick anyone else. At over 2hrs away, I was one of the closest, with two of Teddy’s litter mates going to Adelaide! Take the hint.

It is worth every cent to be part of a program that genuinely puts the welfare of both the wonderful mumma dogs and their pups at the core of everything they do. And the proof is in their puppies!
Our gorgeous pup Teddy is the third dog we have brought home. We had high expectations, but were truly blown away by his calm and confident and friendly nature, along with his aptitude for learning.
In his first week he has mastered toilet training, crate training and place. He has learned commands for sit, down and stay.

He has calmly met toddlers, children, teens and adults, a safe elderly dog, a herd of goats and the neighbours chickens (not one bark!).
He has not reacted to the leaf blower, wheelie bin, hair dryer, blender, car, scooters or me being very clumsy in the kitchen (he did not react at all when I dropped a full cutlery basket onto the tile floor and promptly swore my head off). Not to mention calmly sitting in his place while kids scream at each other across the house as school holidays are in full swing.

None of this is an accident. The amount of planning, care, support and personal attention that Kym puts into making sure Bespoke Spoodles are ready for the world and that their families are set up for success is beyond compare.

The health screenings, selections of breeding pairs, temperament testing, ENS and ESI, owner education, phone calls, facetimes, training demonstrations, puppy health checks and endless video tips, tricks, recipes and how to’s are just some of the things that go into sending you home with the puppy of your dreams.

Kym is the real deal, and it is not uncommon to find a video response to your question featuring Kym in her pjs and a cup of tea! She is generous with her time to a fault, but my goodness you’ll reap the benefits.

From one week old, Kym welcomes her Bespoke families into her actual home, where not only can you meet some very adorable pups, but you get to meet the mother dog and see the environment they are raised in.

Gorgeous Gracie was calmly trotting around Kym and Michael’s home with their own spoodle Coby, and it was like they were having a girls day at a resort and spa! The girls were all sociable, well mannered and calm. All the adult spoodles we met during our visits had gorgeous natures, and their owners would often pop in to chat and answer any questions.

Bespoke Spoodles use a Guardian Family model for their breeding dogs, meaning that the gorgeous mother dogs already have their own loving family – they aren’t valued solely for the pups they produce and discarded once they meet their capacity. This is one of the reasons we chose Bespoke. They are clearly very loved and comfortable in their second home.

In fact, during one of our visits there had been a small complication with a newborn litter. Kym and her family did not hesitate for a second, authorising their specialist reproductive team at QVS to take any steps necessary to ensure the pups receive the pedantic and specialist care for as long as they needed – no cost benefit analysis, no weighing up, just a blank cheque to do whatever was necessary to ensure their wellbeing.

To me, that is what it means to be a truly ethical breeder. To stand by the lives that you have decided to bring into the world, and to value the wellbeing of the puppies and mother dog more than profit.
