What is a Spoodle?<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The spunky and fun-loving Spoodle was specifically bred to be a companion dog. It is thought that they originated in the USA. Spoodles are a hybrid cross of the Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. They are also known as Cockerpoos, although we much prefer their Australian name. They have a sociable, joyful, and friendly temperament, with owners calling them smoochy, charming, outgoing, and friendly ~ they love, to love you and adore company.<\/p>

Spoo\u2019s make excellent family dogs and companions due to their nature, size and amiable, happy-go-lucky temperament. Generally, the Spoodle\u2019s lifespan can range from 12 to 15 years, but hopefully longer.<\/p>

The darling Spoodle is affectionate, active, and intelligent. They have a playful nature and can also make wonderful companions for children, and possibly even a therapy dog. They can adapt to living in a small home or apartment, as long as they receive adequate daily exercise. Their coat is basically no-shed, with the variants being wool or fleece ~ they are a great match for allergy or asthma sufferers. Every now and then you may also encounter a straight coat Spoodle.<\/p>

The beautiful range of colours we are blessed with includes:\u2028 White, Wheaten, Light Apricot, Mid Apricot, Dark Apricot, Ruby Red, Red, Chocolate, Chocolate & White Parti, Chocolate Merle, Blue Merle, and Black & White Abstract.<\/p>

SIZE \u2026 Mini, Mini-Mini, or Toy ?<\/h2>

As the Spoodle is a hybrid (mixed breed), puppies can vary in size. Their adult size is largely influenced by the size of their parents, and most Spoodles reach their full height and weight by 10 to 12 months of age.<\/p>

So\u2026 what\u2019s the difference between a Mini Spoodle and a Toy Spoodle?<\/h2>

Primarily, it comes down to height, as weight can be subjective. For example, over-feeding or under-exercising can result in unnecessary weight gain. This is where confusion often arises, even among some breeders, so we\u2019ll attempt to shed some light on the differences.<\/p>

Toy Spoodle<\/h3>

A Toy Spoodle, similar to a Toy Poodle, will generally reach an adult height of under 28 cm at the withers and typically weigh under 3 kg. It is not our objective to breed Spoodles this small, as there can be increased health risks later in life. We prefer to breed a more stable, robust size that supports long-term wellbeing.<\/p>

Miniature Spoodle<\/h3>

The Miniature Spoodle is the larger of the two. Their estimated adult size generally falls between:<\/p>

  • 40 cm to 45 cm in height<\/li>
  • 8 kg to 15 kg in weight (sometimes more)<\/li><\/ul>

    As with all Spoodles, this can vary depending on the parents. Puppies may mature slightly smaller or larger, but we do our best to accurately estimate adult size upon request.<\/p>

    Our Signature Size: Mini-Mini Spoodles<\/h2>

    Here at Bespoke Spoodles, our dogs typically fall between the Toy and Miniature range.<\/p>

    On average, our Spoodles reach:<\/p>

    • 29 cm to 38 cm in height at the withers<\/li>
    • 5 kg to 10 kg in adult weight<\/li><\/ul>

      We affectionately refer to these as our \u201cMini-Mini Spoodles\u201d ~ a smaller version of the Mini, but not quite as tiny as the Toy.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

      Coat Types<\/h3>

      As a hybrid breed, Spoodles can inherit 1 of 3 coat types. While their exact appearance can never be 100% guaranteed, coat type can usually be easily predicted with reasonable accuracy based on parentage, and our stringent DNA testing protocols.\u2028<\/p>

      At Bespoke Spoodles, there are three main coat types our Spoodle may have:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      Fleece Coat<\/h4>

      The fleece coat is the most common Spoodle coat type. These dogs typically have long, wavy coats or very loose curls, often described as having a teddy bear appearance.<\/p>

      Fleece-coated Spoodles generally do not shed, however they do require:<\/p>

      • Brushing and grooming at least twice per week to prevent matting; and<\/li>
      • Professional clipping every few months<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

        Wool Coat<\/h4>

        The wool coat closely resembles that of a Poodle. These Spoodles often display:<\/p>

        • Tighter curls<\/li>
        • A longer, slimmer snout<\/li>
        • Slimmer, longer legs<\/li>
        • Slightly shorter ears, similar to a Poodle; and<\/li>
        • A lighter overall weight due to their finer frame<\/li><\/ul>

          This coat type is more commonly seen in F1b Spoodles (Spoodle \u00d7 Poodle).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

          Straight Coat<\/h4>

          A straight-coated Spoodle takes more after the English Cocker Spaniel. These pups typically have:<\/p>

          • A flatter, straighter coat<\/li>
          • Slightly shorter legs;<\/li>
          • Beautifully long, floppy ears, characteristic of the Cocker Spaniel<\/li><\/ul>
